Kitty Cat Care

Cats have their own, quiet space away from the noisy canines. This 12 x 15 room has a large window with bird feeders outside so they can watch the action, along with multiple shelves, counters and cabinets to climb and hang out on.

The cats spend the night in their own enclosures, but have freedom to be out and about during the day. We wait until the cats are comfortable with their surroundings. That typically takes 2 to 3 days. Once we feel they are ready for some roaming freedom, we will leave their doors open and they can come out at their leisure.

The cats usually get along with one another, but if there is an incompatible cat, we will time share where we put some cats away and let others out of their enclosures so there aren’t any scuffles. The cat room is right next to the grooming area and in a very frequently traveled pathway for our employees. We check on them frequently to make certain everyone is doing well.

During the day, we go in several times to check the food and water as well as to clean out the litter pans.

Dog Walking and Playing Times

A minimum of four times each day between the following times:
- 6:30 a.m.
- 11:30 a.m.
- 4:30 p.m.
- 8:00 p.m.

Weather permitting, the first three times are about 20 minutes. The last one is for about 5 to 10 minutes. We take our cue from the pups. If it’s too cold or too hot, we bring them back in so they can be as comfortable as possible. There is water available in the yards during the day so the kids can take a drink whenever they need a break from the action.

Vaccination Requirements

Cats must be current with Rabies, Distemper, and Feline Leukemia (if they go outdoors)

Dogs must be current with Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella

We must have a copy of your pet's vaccinations in hand PRIOR to their visit. This way we can ensure everyone's safety before they walk in the door. You or your vet can contact us and we will help acquire the appropriate vaccination documentation.

What to Bring for Your Pet's Stay With Us

You are welcome to bring whatever you think your pet will need to be comfortable. For first time pets, we recommend that you bring a t-shirt that you have recently worn or a towel that you have used. We have found that having something that smells like mom or dad really helps alleviate any anxiety until your pup can get used to the daily routine and finds out how much fun they are going to have! If you do bring bedding, understand that your pup might just get in the mood to rip it up. It happens, even if they don’t normally do it at home. We will remove the bedding if we notice it starting to happen, but we cannot be held responsible if anything you bring is lost or destroyed during your pet’s stay. If the bedding should become soiled, we will do what we can to wash it and return it to you clean. If it becomes soiled more than once, we will remove it and replace it with our bedding. We do provide buckets for water and bowls for food. We have bedding available. We feed a dry kibble; Canidae All Life Stages, and have dog biscuits- regular as well as grain free- for snacks in the afternoon.

If your pet is on a special diet, or has a sensitive stomach, we ask that you bring the food you feed at home. If your pet runs out of their food, we can either transition to our food, or purchase some of the food that you brought. We will contact you if that happens.

If your pet requires medication, we are comfortable with administering it. Please bring detailed instructions with the specific medication, dosage, and times of administration. There is no additional charge for giving medications.

Check-In Information

Allow time for some paperwork- usually about 5 to 10 minutes when you drop off your pet. For your first time using our facility, we require you to fill out a client information sheet as well as a check in sheet. Each time your pet is boarded, you will need to fill out the check in sheet, because the dates of the visit are on there as well as a detail of what you are leaving with your pet. If you have specific instructions, we ask that you write the instructions down prior to dropping your pet off. It does get really busy some days and we are given a bunch of information. Writing it down for us is the best way to ensure all information is given and received correctly.

If you would like for your pet to be groomed during their stay, please contact Bark Avenue Canine Designs at 785-565-0612 and speak to one of our groomers to make an appointment and to discuss the grooming plan. The groomers' schedules fill up quickly over the weekend, so please plan ahead and make an appointment with them prior to checking in for your boarding reservation.

Boys who are not yet neutered who are showing signs of aggression, marking or trying to be dominant might not be able to board with us until they are neutered.
Girls who are in heat, or soon to be in heat CANNOT board with us. The boys- even the neutered ones- are hard to handle when there is a female in heat on the property. For everyone’s safety we ask that you keep her at home or find other arrangements.
